9 Beauty Activities To Utilise Your Leisure Time

Lounging around the house might have been fun for the first few weeks, but now living the life of a couch potato doesn’t seem nearly as glamorous anymore. However, while social distancing might be the dullest thing in the world, it also offers you a unique opportunity – to get drop-dead gorgeous.

So, instead of feeling bored and tired all the time, let’s use this time to do something good. It’s time for a glow up!

Do A Dance Workout

Slim down, tone your body, improve your circulation, and have a ton of fun while doing it! A good workout routine is essential for our bodies to stay healthy and our skin glowy, especially now. A dance workout is a perfect thing to try because it will get your blood pumping and help your skin firm up as you burn calories. If you’re not sure where to look, you can check out Pamela Reif’s 15-minute dance workouts to great 80s’ tunes, or any of the other workouts on this list. The workouts range from family-friendly to downright sexy, so get ready to work up a sweat as you move your hips and let the beats take you.

Whip Up A Face Mask

There’s nothing like a face mask to bring that juicy, plump glow to your skin. We’ve even got a little DIY recipe for you:

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon of honey (manuka honey is the best)

Turmeric will soothe inflammation of your face and help tighten the skin and reduce wrinkles, and coconut milk and honey will gently hydrate it. If your skin is oily, you can add a little apple cider vinegar into the mix to keep sebum under control. If your skin is more on the dry side, add a little rosehip or coconut oil. Apply your mask to a cleansed face and let it sit for 20-30 minutes.

Give Yourself A Facial Massage

This is a great way to get some quick stress relief and improve your skin tone and elasticity. It’s especially good to use a crystal roller after applying a face mask or a moisturizer to your face to help the products sink in better and be more effective.

Deep Treat Your Hair

By the time the pandemic is done, you can have a head full of luscious, soft hair if you give it deep treatments regularly. Begin by healing your scalp – use a quality organic anti-dandruff shampoo to get sebum production under control and remove build-up, and massage your head gently as you wash it. It’s important to use a gentle shampoo with natural ingredients that will actually care for your scalp and delicate tresses.

Once your hair is clean, the next step is to apply a hair mask. It’s totally fine to use a store-bought mask, but you can also whip up your own if you like: mix 1 mashed banana and ½ mashed avocado with some oat milk and argan oil, and smooth it down the length of your hair. Leave it for 30 minutes, then wash it off.

Do A Full Body Scrub

Either use a sugar-based scrub in the shower or better yet, use a dry brush before you take a bath. Dry brushing has great benefits for our circulation, and it can actually help reduce the appearance of cellulite if done regularly. After brushing, you can have a full-on spa day at home if you like – light a few scented candles, run a hot bath, relax your muscles and indulge in some of your favourite beauty treats.

Tint Your Brows And Your Lashes

Imagine if your brows and lashes could look good without a shred of makeup. To give them a temporary tint that will make them look fuller, use a home dyeing kit that you can buy at basically any drugstore. Make sure to read the instructions carefully and use a colour that’s only a few shades darker than your natural colour.

Do A Mani/Pedi

A neat manicure and pedicure can always make a girl feel ten times more put together. Since you’re spending most of your time at home these days, this is a great time to try out some wild colours that you otherwise wouldn’t dare to on regular days. A bright coral orange or a turquoise? Why not! You get to be an artist and play with colours and styles.

Practice Your Eyeliner

The only real secret to perfect makeup is practice. Now that you don’t have to worry about doing your makeup quickly, take all the time in the world to experiment and learn how to do new, interesting looks. Soon enough, you’ll be able to pull of that perfect eyeliner wing with no effort at all.

We need to be responsible. Practicing social distancing and wearing a mask in these troubling times is the only way to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe, regardless of how stressful and uncomfortable it might be. However, this situation doesn’t need to be harder than it is – use this time to indulge in a few at-home beauty treatments and have a little fun!
