Consider This Tinted Sunscreen That Has Impressed Many
Having tried numerous skincare, makeup, and haircare products in the past decade as a beauty writer, sunscreen stands out as the most challenging to get right. Unlike other beauty items like lipstick or mousse, sunscreen is a product recommended for everyone, no matter their gender, age, skin type, or tone.
Due to this, brands are continuously introducing new SPF formulas to suit all skin types, even though these formulations may not be groundbreaking. Many sunscreen products have not worked well for my sensitive, combination skin prone to redness. However, I have found a reliable and effective brand in Tatcha.
For three years, I have been using Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++, a lightweight, mattifying product that absorbs quickly into the skin, minimizes pores, and works perfectly on its own or under makeup. It has been everything I sought in a sunscreen until Tatcha surpassed expectations with their latest release.
Introducing: Tatcha’s new The Silk Sunscreen Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA++++ ($60).

Similar to the original Tatcha cream SPF, this new liquid SPF is a mineral sunscreen but with a subtle universal peachy tint to even skin tone and reduce redness. It also contains hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for added skincare benefits. Intrigued by its formulation, I gave it a try and immediately incorporated it into my daily routine.
The radiant and skin-perfecting qualities of the new Tatcha sunscreen caught my attention, especially in brightening my complexion and soothing my rosacea without dulling my skin. To understand the science behind its effectiveness, I spoke with cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Michele Green.
According to Green, The Silk Sunscreen became an instant hit, selling out at Sephora within days of its launch and was just recently restocked. She emphasized that mineral sunscreens like The Silk are gentler on the skin compared to chemical sunscreens due to the way they shield the skin from harmful UV rays.
“Mineral sunscreens form a physical barrier on the skin’s surface using ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium oxide to block UV rays, whereas chemical sunscreens interact with UV rays to dissipate heat,” she explains. Green recommends physical sunscreens for those with sensitive skin to avoid irritation.
However, The Silk’s effectiveness does not solely rely on its SPF type but also on its infused ingredients. Green highlighted the benefits of hyaluronic acid in retaining skin moisture and its plumping effects, particularly as we age and naturally lose hydration in the skin.
Niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3 present in The Silk, aids in protein synthesis important for skin health and firmness. It showcases anti-inflammatory properties beneficial for conditions like acne and rosacea. Niacinamide’s hydrating effects contribute to a glowing complexion, minimize pore size, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
For those seeking a sunscreen that not only protects the skin from UV damage but also enhances skin health and appearance, Tatcha’s The Silk is highly recommended. Its non-whitening formula makes it an ideal choice for a flawless and protective finish.
