Here’s Your Perfect Daily Skincare Routine

Skin, the largest organ of the body. It acts as a barrier and protects your body from harmful things in the outside world, such as the cold and UV rays from the sun, as well as germs and toxic substances.

So, it’s important to keep it as healthy as possible, as it’s the best defence against sensitivities. Not only do you get a better protective barrier, but there are also cosmetic benefits that people value for skin as well.

This go to daily skincare routine suited to anyone in just a few simple steps will help keep your skin protected, happy, healthy and looking and feeling good.

Step 1 – Cleanser

The first step should always be cleansing the skin whether you do it in the evening or morning you need to wash away the dirt and oils that build up.

The recommended time to wash your face would be for 60 seconds, using a gentle circular motion. Wash the cleanser off with warm water. It is also recommended to wash your skin twice to ensure the pores are clean.

There are many cleansers, so you need to find the one designed for your skin type. Generally, for dry skin look out for hyaluronic acid because it draws moisture from the atmosphere and locks it in the skin. Personally, for me, Misumi Skincare’s works well for my skin type, but you’ll have to find out what works best for you.

For oily skin look out for cleanser with salicylic acid as it gently exfoliates the skin and penetrates deep inside the skin’s pores, helping to unclog any excess oil, impurities to prevent breakouts and blackheads and to reveal the healthy layer of skin underneath.

Step 2 – Toner

This step is not as important as others, but it can be useful.

Toners were created to help return the skin’s pH, but now they can serve multiple purposes. They act as a delivery system for antioxidants, and each type of toner is intended for a different skin issue. If you haven’t used one, there is no need to begin, but if you have a favourite one, there is no harm in continuing to use it.

Step 3 – Serum

This step is when you will apply active ingredients to your clean and toned face. Serums are super concentrated and penetrate deep into your skin so, applying it early in the routine is essential to benefit from the nutrient-dense treatments specific to your concerns.

This list of product ingredients will guide you in the right direction to find the right serum for your skin:

Niacinamide – reduces redness and inflammation.

Hyaluronic acid – replenishes moisture in your skin for a youthful look and feel.

Retinol – anti-ageing ingredient which stimulates production of collagen for a firmer and plumper skin.

AHAs – natural acids derived from plants to keep your complexion clear and vibrant by correcting discoloration and unclogging pores.

There are many more active ingredients to look out for in your serums to improve your skin.

Step 4 – Moisturizer

This is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine. If you have oily skin, you may feel like it just makes your skin oilier, but this isn’t true. If your skin is well moisturized the sebum production is lower, hence less oily skin in the long run.

The best time to apply a moisturizer is while the skin is still damp, the quicker you get through other steps the quicker you can apply your moisturizer and lock in the hydration.

The many benefits of moisturizing are helping your skin to maintain a healthy balance, reduces the appearance of blemishes, helps your skin to stay young and fights wrinkles.

Step 5 – Sunscreen

The holy grail of any skincare routine and the key to skin that keeps looking and feeling good. Depending on which sunscreen you use will depend when to use it. Mineral and physical sunscreen should be applied after moisturizer has set in.

However, it’s more difficult with a chemical one. If applied after moisturizer it won’t be effective, but if done before, moisturizer will not lock in the moisture. So, it’s best to stick to a physical sunscreen with zinc as it safe, effective and provides the best protection against UVA and UVB rays.

Everyone has unique skin and you should listen to it to find what works best for you. A good daily skincare routine will keep your skin protected and feeling and looking as best as it ever has been.
