New Feature by Strava to Help You Navigate Trails
When heading out on a trail, it’s important to strike the right balance of preparation and adventure. Strava’s latest feature, Trail Routes, aims to assist hikers, runners, and mountain bikers in choosing the ideal route through nature.
Trail Routes, a new interactive component within the Strava app, displays trail networks worldwide to help users select routes that suit their preferences. This feature allows individuals to plan their outdoor excursions effectively.
Exclusive to paying members, Trail Routes complements existing features such as advanced performance metrics and personalized heatmaps. For a yearly subscription fee of $59.99, users can access this feature by clicking on the Maps icon at the bottom of the app.
By selecting their desired activity, whether hiking, mountain biking, or trail running, users can zoom in on a trail network to view specific routes with details such as distance, difficulty level, elevation, and more. After choosing a route, a map is generated for guidance. Throughout the journey, users can track their progress and share their experiences on Strava.
Strava CEO Michael Horvath highlighted the community aspect of Trail Routes, emphasizing that all trails are based on routes taken by Strava users themselves. This user-generated data includes information like average completion times, enriching the experience for all participants.
While Trail Routes lacks features like reviews and hiker notes found on platforms such as AllTrails, its focus is more on providing a seamless mapping experience integrated with Strava’s existing functionalities.
Having a pre-tested route created by fellow outdoor enthusiasts can be invaluable when navigating unfamiliar terrain. This feature can prevent users from getting lost and guide them back on track if needed, ensuring a smoother outdoor experience.
