Navratri Diet Plan To Shed Pounds

Hello everyone,

Today, I’m sharing a diet plan and some Navratri fasting recipes focusing on weight loss during this festive period. I believe in avoiding heavy fried foods during Navratri as fasting loses its essence if it makes you feel unwell and uncomfortable due to overeating.

While others may indulge in fried snacks like peanuts, roasted makhane, and bananas throughout the day, I opt for a lighter and healthier approach. Let me share with you a meal I recently prepared and enjoyed thoroughly.

This meal kept me satiated and energized all day, and I prefer having my main meal at lunch instead of dinner. It helps me feel light and allows me to go for a late-night walk on an empty stomach.

Navratri Meal Plan

Now to the main point, here’s the Navratri meal plan you’ve been waiting for:

Early Morning

Start the day with two glasses of lukewarm water mixed with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. I’ve also been consuming giloy swaras daily for the past year due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

Breakfast

Enjoy a cup of milk with roasted amaranth seeds for a nutritious breakfast. Refer to the recipe here.

Mid-Morning Snack

Have an orange or mosambi along with a cup of black coffee sweetened with stevia after a short interval.

Lunch

My Nourishing Meal:
Vrat ka dhokla

Ingredients
– Vrat ke chawal
– Curd (I used half a cup mixed with water, adjust to your preference)
– Chopped spinach
– Salt, soda bicarbonate, or Eno fruit salt (I prefer using 1 sachet of Eno, not shown in the picture)

Method

– Mix samak rice, salt, and curd thoroughly.
– Add chopped spinach and mix well.
– Adjust water for desired consistency; if using soda bicarb, add it at this stage.
– After half an hour, add Eno Fruit salt, mix well, and cook in the microwave for 4-5 minutes or steam for about 10-15 minutes until done.
– Check for doneness with a knife test, slice as desired, and serve with spicy pumpkin and peanut chutney.

Evening Snack

Indulge in a handful of roasted peanuts with unsweetened tea or add stevia if preferred. Do you purchase roasted peanuts or roast them at home? I make my own salted peanuts at home, and I’ll share the process in a future post. Stay tuned!

Dinner

Since I have my heaviest meal during lunch, my dinner comprises a glass of milk with 6 crushed almonds. This drink is consumed after an hour-long late-night walk, and the peanuts from the evening snack help me feel full and satisfied.

If you prefer having your main meal in the evening, feel free to swap the lunch and dinner menus without any issues.

Stay Hydrated and Active

While fasting during Navratri, I prioritize staying well-hydrated and active. Personally, I aim to drink 15-20 glasses of water daily; however, consuming at least 6-8 glasses is recommended if you find it challenging to drink more.

Exercise is a crucial part of my routine, including Leslie Sansone’s Walk at home program for 2-3 miles in the morning and a brisk one-hour walk at night. Burning around 500 calories daily is important to me as it helps maintain a positive mood and keeps me energized.
