Yoga Flow to Help You Sleep Better

Yoga Flow to Help You Sleep Better

If you are experiencing higher levels of stress and anxiety now compared to before the pandemic, you are not alone. Difficulty in sleeping often arises when your mind is filled with fear and negativity. To help calm your mind, whether it’s right before bedtime or during high-stress moments in your day, BK Yoga Club founders Alicia Ferguson and Paris Alexandra have shared a sleep-focused yoga flow in the latest episode of Good Moves. “Today we are going to wind down with my kick-back flow, helping release any pent-up pressure or stress the body is holding onto from the day,” says Ferguson.

To enhance the yoga flow for sleep, Ferguson suggests using an essential oil blend. “You can choose any essential oil you prefer,” she says. “Today, Paris and I are using a mix of frankincense and lavender. Take two or three drops or roll it in your hand and gently apply it to the soles of your feet.” While doing this, set an intention for your practice. “Mindfully apply the oil, let it absorb, connect with your body to ground yourself for this practice.”

Ferguson explains that feeling unwell negatively impacts our internal rhythm, sleep patterns, and digestion. “Grounding ourselves brings calm and equilibrium,” she adds. Grounding helps shift your focus from past disappointments and anxiety to being present in the moment.

This gentle series of movements will help release tension, letting go of the day’s worries with each exhale. Finally, Ferguson advises not to rush back to your tasks after the practice. “Pause the video and stay in the moment for as long as you want. Grab a blanket if you like and get cozy,” she suggests.
